Thursday July 14, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.: The regular Middlebury Township Board meeting
held at the Ovid Municipal Building was called to order by Supervisor Anthony Sinicropi
with the pledge to the flag. Prayer was given by Trustee Charles Simpson. Sinicropi,
Clerk Audrey Sovis, Treasurer Carolyn Stevens and Trustees Simpson and Paul Dutton
were present. There were 8 visitors.
Scheduled Comments: Vickie Jacobs, a representative of Charter Cable,
addressed complaints from Middlebury residents who were unhappy with their cable
service. She will look into the cost of an economical upgrade which implements used
equipment and the possibility of providing better channels to this area.
A motion was made by Simpson, seconded by Dutton to approve the agenda,
adding “cemetery deed” to unfinished business. All ayes, no nays, carried. A motion
was made by Dutton, seconded by Simpson to approve the minutes of the June 9, 2005
board meeting. All ayes, no nays, carried. A motion was made by Simpson, seconded by
Dutton to approve the treasurer’s report. All ayes, no nays, carried. A motion was made
by Sinicropi, seconded by Dutton to pay the July 14, 2005 bills in the amount of
$14,827.11 (checks 1476-1485) Approved by signature vote.
Communications: a violation notice regarding a permit to build a deck was sent to
Gregory Harper of 8375 Krouse Road. It was noted that the county stated he is now in
compliance. Sovis reported that the final paperwork for grant money to receive a new
voting machine was sent to the county.
Unfinished Business: The cemetery deed for the new property acquired by the
township was discussed. Sinicropi will contact attorney Mark Cooley to check on its
status as well as the Metz property. He will also inquire about Cooley’s desire to remain
as township attorney.
New Business: A motion was made by Sovis, seconded by Stevens to approve the
proposed road contract to apply 3600 tons of 23A gravel on Wilkinson road from Carland
road to Warren road for a total distance of 2.00 miles at an estimated cost of $13,860.
Roll call vote: Sinicropi aye, Simpson aye, Dutton aye, Sovis aye, Stevens aye. No nays,
carried. A motion was made by Sinicropi, seconded by Dutton to purchase a tax
collection software program designed by the Sciota Township treasurer for $100. All
ayes, no nays, carried. A motion was made by Dutton, seconded by Sinicropi to approve
payment of the August bills, as there will be no meeting. All ayes, no nays, carried. A
motion was made by Sovis, seconded by Stevens to put up for bids the old flag pole at
the cemetery, advertising for the minimum number of weeks. All ayes, no nays, carried.
A motion was made by Sovis, seconded by Stevens to send four people to attend the Fall
District meeting September 23, 2005 at Frankenmuth. All ayes, no nays, carried.
Discussion of a software program for the cemetery was put on hold until all options are
explored.
Reports: Dutton reported that the Ovid Public Library’s reading program has
been very successful. A millage rate will be set at the next meeting. Simpson reported
that the OMES is still waiting for delivery of the new ambulance.
At 8:36 p.m. a motion was made by Sovis to adjourn. Seconded by Dutton,
carried.
