Present was Clerk Susan Tomasek-Swan, Treasurer Carolyn Stevens, absent was Supervisor Anthony Sinicropi. Clerk Tomasek-Swan made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Treasurer Stevens seconded the motion. All ayes and no nays, the motion was carried. Clerk Tomasek-Swan presented the following names to work for the August 5, 2008 Primary: Shawn Dilts, Election Chairman, Lois Wadsworth, Marsha Unterbrink, Eileen Wheeler, and Carrie Unterbrink. Treasurer Stevens made a motion to approve the workers for the August Primary. Clerk Tomasek-Swan supported the motion. All ayes and no nays, the motion was carried. Clerk Tomasek-Swan made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:35pm. Treasurer Stevens seconded the motion. All ayes and no nays, the motion was carried. The meeting was adjourned. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm with a pledge to the flag and a prayer led by Trustee Simpson. The following were present from the roll call: Supervisor, Anthony Sinicropi; Clerk, Susan Tomasek-Swan; Treasurer, Carolyn Stevens; Trustees, Paul Dutton and Charles Simpson; Also present were Supervisor of Ovid Township, Jim McClelland; Road Commission representatives, Lonnie Latunski and Dick Miller; Deputy Steve Loomis; and 18 guests. Scheduled Comments: Ovid Township Supervisor, Jim McClelland spoke on the OMES renewal millage. He discussed how the emergency service has outgrown the present building being used. He stated that the OMES could obtain a bond at a good rate if the millage was passed for a renewal to 2023. Road Commissioner, Lonny Latunski spoke on the increase cost of road repair and maintenance. He stated the importance of maintaining the township’s roads in their present conditions. He also spoke of other townships in the Shiawassee County area with a road millage. Clerk Susan Tomasek-Swan showed a power point presentation of the increase of township general funds used to maintain the township roads. Treasurer Carolyn Stevens presented a break down of how the tax dollar collected by the township is distributed. General Business: A motion was made by Clerk Tomasek-Swan to approve the agenda as presented. The motion was supported by Trustee Simpson with all ayes and no nays the motion was carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:05pm to start the regular township meeting. The regular meeting for the Middlebury Township was reconvened at 7:12pm. Additional guests arrived for a total of 23 guests. www.middleburytownship.org Scheduled Comments: Deputy Steve Loomis stated that breaking and entering is increasing, especially daytime larceny. Jenny Miracle and Pam Parrish, the new owners of the Owosso Speedway, spoke on the some of the new events they have planned. They are hoping to increase the business of the Speedway. Larry Albert from SATA discussed their board’s possible interest in bringing service to our township area. He discussed what SATA has to offer and limitations to the members of our community. He stated the approximate figure of $2, 184.86 for the initial year of service but stated that amount would definitely increase in the following years as people would use their service. Tony Newman spoke on his background and reasons he should be elected to the Drain Commissioner position. Dena Finnegan spoke on her background and reasons to vote for her in the primary for the office of Shiawassee County Sheriff. Public Comment: None Communications: Clerk Tomasek-Swan read the list of election inspectors for the August Primary Election that was approved by the Election Commission. The board wished Supervisor Anthony Sinicropi a Happy Birthday. The board discussed a possibility of working on a blight ordinance. General Business: A motion was made by Trustee Dutton and seconded by Clerk Tomasek-Swan to approve the agenda as written. All ayes and no nays the motion was carried. A motion was made by Supervisor Sinicropi and supported by Treasurer Stevens to accept the June’s minutes with the correction of addition of Trustee Simpson to support motion made by Trustee Dutton on the motion to pay June’s bills. All ayes and no nays the motion was carried. A motion was made by Trustee Dutton and supported by Treasurer Stevens to accept the June’s Treasury report. All ayes and no nays the motion was carried. A motion was made by Trustee Dutton and supported by Clerk Tomasek-Swan to pay bills in the amount of $4,931.77 with checks # 2162-2175. All ayes and no nays, the motion was carried. Unfinished Business: None www.middleburytownship.org New Business: Trustee Dutton made a motion to approve paying of August bills due to the fact that the township board does not meet in August. Trustee Simpson seconded the motion. All ayes and no nays the motion was carried. Trustee Dutton made a motion due to not meeting in August, if an educational meeting early bird payment is due prior to the September’s meeting a phone call vote could be done. This motion was supported by Supervisor Sinicropi. All ayes and no nays, the motion was carried. Tomasek-Swan discussed with the board the need to have the cemetery records being placed on the computer. To help facilitate the process, she asked if she would be able to help Deputy Clerk Shawn Dilts at the same rate of pay of $9.00 per hour. Trustee Dutton made a motion to add the Clerk at the rate of $9.00 per hour to enter old cemetery records. The motion was supported by Treasurer Stevens. All ayes and no nays, the motion was carried. Trustee Dutton made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Treasurer Stevens seconded the motion. All ayes and no nays, the motion was carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:18pm.
