Middlebury Township PO Box 622, Ovid, Michigan 48866 Regular Board Minutes Middlebury Township Hall 7627 W M21, Ovid Michigan Wednesday, December 11 , 2013 at 7:00 pm Call to Order: Supervisor Herendeen called the meeting to order at 7:12 pm with a pledge to the flag and a prayer led by Richard Semans. Board Members Present: Supervisor Michael Herendeen, Clerk Susan Tomasek-Swan, Treasurer Carolyn Stevens, Trustee Gary Kiger and Trustee Richard Givens Guests Present: Bob Dennison, Maple Grove Cemetery representative, Paul Dutton, Middlebury Township resident, Mike and Diane Dowler, Middlebury Township’s assessors, Richard Semans, Ovid Middlebury Emergency Service representative, Anthony Sinicropi, Deputy Supervisor, and Michael Swan, Middlebury Township resident. Scheduled Comments: None Public Comments: Opened at 7:13 pm Closed at 7:38pm Mr. Paul Dutton spoke to the township board stating how he hasn’t missed being on the board and wanted to say happy holidays to everyone. He complimented the board on continuing to say a prayer before the meeting. Trustee Kiger noted our new carpet to Mr. Paul Dutton. Deputy Supervisor, Anthony Sinicropi stated in the last month people asked his opinion on the running of the Shiawassee County Commissioners board as a part time board. Bob Dennison asked about the last month’s minutes regarding the redrawing of the boundary lines with the Maple Grove cemetery to be included into the city of Ovid. Paul Dutton asked about giving land to Clinton County. Supervisor Herendeen clarified the land would stay in Shiawassee County it would not go to Clinton County. Motion to Approve Agenda: Trustee Givens made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Treasurer Stevens seconded the motion. Yes: All Nay: None Carried Motion to Approve Minutes: Treasurer Stevens made a motion to approve the minutes regular meeting held on November 14, 2013. Clerk Tomasek Swan seconded the motion. Yes: All Nay: None Carried Motion to Approve Bills: Trustee Givens made a motion to approve paying the bills with checks #3450-3466 and 2 EFT in an amount of $ 6,252.40.Treasurer Stevens seconded the motion. Yes: All Nay: None Carried Communications: Park and Recreation-Trustee Gary Kiger reported on Park and Recreation board activities. January 28th and February 10th 2014 the Park and Recreation board will be having public meetings about new projects. The Park and Recreation board wants to tile the ball field to help with flooding. OMESA-Dick Semans stated nothing is new. The easement is finally sent off and the new access road will be built to build to the cell and water tower. Planning Commission- The next meeting is tomorrow night, Dec. 12, 2013. Clerk Tomasek- Swan asked to have the meeting dates for next year. Trustee Givens made a concern about the present chairman. Library- no meeting Maple Grove Cemetery- Trustee Givens stated the Maple Grove Cemetery board is working on the next year’s budget. There is talk about a possible millage being brought to the people. There may be a discussion coming up on this issue. Trustee Givens feels it is not in our best interest because the Middlebury Township has a cemetery. Shiawassee MTA Meeting-Eastern Half of the Shiawassee County is spending money on the Misteguay Creek. Certain revenues are going to go down. The new legislation about disable veterans not having to pay for property taxes has enacted. The veteran needs to be 100 percent disable to receive this exemption. The township has two residents that qualify. But statewide this law will have an impact on townships and counties. Business: Tax Bill- The Township received a tax bill from the county and the county credited only $100.00 for printing. They stated the charge was to maintain our records. There was no saving in cost for printing our own bills due to our expense. Final Comments: Opened at 8:26 pm Closed at 8:42 Supervisor Herendeen brought up the idea of changing the price paid for home office allowance to maybe twice a year to the clerk to help out with the storage of items in the house. It is an idea and talk more about it next month. Trustee Givens would like to have the board think about the cemetery and discuss it next month. Givens reminded about how the former board had foresight to purchase the property which in the end has really benefitted Maple Grove cemetery. Trustee Gary Kiger made a comment about the sign at the end of the driveway. He would like to see reflectors on the sign post. Trustee Givens investigate about the possibility.
